The Great Debate Tonight At 5pm
Booker T. Washington and WEB DuBois were influential political activists during the 20th century. Although they both strove for socio-economic equality for African-Americans, they took drastically different approaches. Booker T. Washington advocated for accumulation of wealth through industrial education, as opposed to WEB DuBois who advocated for liberal arts education to train leaders, the “Talented Tenth” theory. Tonight, we will be debating their theories in context of the 21st century. Resolve: The method of Booker T. Washington is preferred over that of W.E.B. Dubois in enhancing African American Socio-Economic equality in the 21st century for the new generation.
Tonight, on behalf of the Zeta Pi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and the UGA Debate team, the Hall is hosting the Great Debate where a debate will be taking place about these two great gentlemen. Be at the Hall at 5pm to partake in the event and expect a great debate as always.
